BACKGROUND: The reduction in cardiovascular disease (CVD) events with edetate disodium (EDTA) in the Trial to Assess Chelation Therapy (TACT) suggested that chelation of toxic metals might provide novel opportunities to reduce CVD in patients with diabetes. Lead and cadmium are vasculotoxic metals chelated by EDTA. We present baseline characteristics for participants in TACT2, a randomized, double-masked, placebo-controlled trial designed as a replication of the TACT trial limited to patients with diabetes. METHODS: TACT2 enrolled 1,000 participants with diabetes and prior myocardial infarction, age 50 years or older between September 2016 and December 2020. Among 959 participants with at least one infusion, 933 had blood and/or urine metals measured at the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention using the same methodology as in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). We compared metal levels in TACT2 to a contemporaneous subset of NHANES participants with CVD, diabetes and other inclusion criteria similar to TACT2's participants. RESULTS: At baseline, the median (interquartile range, IQR) age was 67 (60, 72) years, 27% were women, 78% reported white race, mean (SD) BMI was 32.7 (6.6) kg/m2, 4% reported type 1 diabetes, 46.8% were treated with insulin, 22.3% with GLP1-receptor agonists or SGLT-2 inhibitors, 90.2% with aspirin, warfarin or P2Y12 inhibitors, and 86.5% with statins. Blood lead was detectable in all participants; median (IQR) was 9.19 (6.30, 13.9) µg/L. Blood and urine cadmium were detectable in 97% and median (IQR) levels were 0.28 (0.18, 0.43) µg/L and 0.30 (0.18, 0.51) µg/g creatinine, respectively. Metal levels were largely similar to those in the contemporaneous NHANES subset. CONCLUSIONS: TACT2 participants were characterized by high use of medication to treat CVD and diabetes and similar baseline metal levels as in the general US population. TACT2 will determine whether chelation therapy reduces the occurrence of subsequent CVD events in this high-risk population. CLINICAL TRIALS REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov. RESUMO

Dual-atom site catalysts (DASCs) have sparked considerable interest in heterogeneous photocatalysis as they possess the advantages of excellent photoelectronic activity, photostability, and high carrier separation efficiency and mobility. The DASCs involved in these important photocatalytic processes, especially in the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR), N2/nitrate reduction, etc., have been extensively investigated in the past few years. In this review, we highlight the recent progress in DASCs that provides fundamental insights into the photocatalytic conversion of small molecules. The controllable preparation and characterization methods of various DASCs are discussed. Subsequently, the reaction mechanisms of the formation of several important molecules (hydrogen, hydrocarbons and ammonia) on DASCs are introduced in detail, in order to probe the relationship between DASCs's structure and photocatalytic activity. Finally, some challenges and outlooks of DASCs in the photocatalytic conversion of small molecules are summarized and prospected. We hope that this review can provide guidance for in-depth understanding and aid in the design of efficient DASCs for photocatalysis.

Single-site Fe-N-C catalysts are the most promising Pt-group catalyst alternatives for the oxygen reduction reaction, but their application is impeded by their relatively low activity and unsatisfactory stability as well as production costs. Here, cobalt atoms are introduced into an Fe-N-C catalyst to enhance its catalytic activity by utilizing the synergistic effect between Fe and Co atoms. Meanwhile, phenanthroline is employed as the ligand, which favours stable pyridinic N-coordinated Fe-Co sites. The obtained catalysts exhibit excellent ORR performance with a half-wave potential of 0.892 V and good stability under alkaline conditions. In addition, the excellent ORR activity and durability of FeCo-N-C enabled the constructed zinc-air battery to exhibit a high power density of 247.93 mW cm-2 and a high capacity of 768.59 mA h gZn-1. Moreover, the AEMFC based on FeCo-N-C also achieved a high open circuit voltage (0.95 V) and rated power density (444.7 mW cm-2), surpassing those of many currently reported transition metal-based cathodes. This work emphasizes the feasibility of this non-precious metal catalyst preparation strategy and its practical applicability in fuel cells and metal-air batteries.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the bacterial communities of biting midges and ticks collected from three sites in the Poyang Lake area, namely, Qunlu Practice Base, Peach Blossom Garden, and Huangtong Animal Husbandry, and whether vectors carry any bacterial pathogens that may cause diseases to humans, to provide scientific basis for prospective pathogen discovery and disease prevention and control. Methods: Using a metataxonomics approach in concert with full-length 16S rRNA gene sequencing and operational phylogenetic unit (OPU) analysis, we characterized the species-level microbial community structure of two important vector species, biting midges and ticks, including 33 arthropod samples comprising 3,885 individuals, collected around Poyang Lake. Results: A total of 662 OPUs were classified in biting midges, including 195 known species and 373 potentially new species, and 618 OPUs were classified in ticks, including 217 known species and 326 potentially new species. Surprisingly, OPUs with potentially pathogenicity were detected in both arthropod vectors, with 66 known species of biting midges reported to carry potential pathogens, including Asaia lannensis and Rickettsia bellii, compared to 50 in ticks, such as Acinetobacter lwoffii and Staphylococcus sciuri. We found that Proteobacteria was the most dominant group in both midges and ticks. Furthermore, the outcomes demonstrated that the microbiota of midges and ticks tend to be governed by a few highly abundant bacteria. Pantoea sp7 was predominant in biting midges, while Coxiella sp1 was enriched in ticks. Meanwhile, Coxiella spp., which may be essential for the survival of Haemaphysalis longicornis Neumann, were detected in all tick samples. The identification of dominant species and pathogens of biting midges and ticks in this study serves to broaden our knowledge associated to microbes of arthropod vectors. Conclusion: Biting midges and ticks carry large numbers of known and potentially novel bacteria, and carry a wide range of potentially pathogenic bacteria, which may pose a risk of infection to humans and animals. The microbial communities of midges and ticks tend to be dominated by a few highly abundant bacteria.

RESUMO

Conjugated polymers have demonstrated promising optoelectronic properties, but their brittleness and poor mechanical characteristics have hindered their fabrication into durable fibers and textiles. Here, we report a universal approach to continuously producing highly strong, ultratough conjugated polymer fibers using a flow-enhanced crystallization (FLEX) method. These fibers exhibit one order of magnitude higher tensile strength (>200 megapascals) and toughness (>80 megajoules per cubic meter) than traditional semiconducting polymer fibers and films, outperforming many synthetic fibers, ready for scalable production. These fibers also exhibit unique strain-enhanced electronic properties and exceptional performance when used as stretchable conductors, thermoelectrics, transistors, and sensors. This work not only highlights the influence of fluid mechanical effects on the crystallization and mechanical properties of conjugated polymers but also opens up exciting possibilities for integrating these functional fibers into wearable electronics.

BACKGROUND: Epidural analgesia is the most effective analgesic method during labor. Butorphanol administered epidurally has been shown to be a successful analgesic method during labor. However, no comprehensive study has examined the safety and efficacy of using butorphanol as an epidural analgesic during labor. AIM: To assess butorphanol's safety and efficacy for epidural labor analgesia. METHODS: The PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Google Scholar databases will be searched from inception. Other types of literature, such as conference abstracts and references to pertinent reviews, will also be reviewed. We will include randomized controlled trials comparing butorphanol with other opioids combined with local anesthetics for epidural analgesia during labor. There will be no language restrictions. The primary outcomes will include the visual analog scale score for the first stage of labor, fetal effects, and Apgar score. Two independent reviewers will evaluate the full texts, extract data, and assess the risk of bias. Publication bias will be evaluated using Egger's or Begg's tests as well as visual analysis of a funnel plot, and heterogeneity will be evaluated using the Cochran Q test, P values, and I2 values. Meta-analysis, subgroup analysis, and sensitivity analysis will be performed using RevMan software version 5.4. This protocol was developed in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) Protocols statement, and the PRISMA statement will be used for the systematic review. RESULTS: This study provides reliable information regarding the safety and efficacy of using butorphanol as an epidural analgesic during labor. CONCLUSION: To support clinical practice and development, this study provides evidence-based findings regarding the safety and efficacy of using butorphanol as an epidural analgesic during labor.

VO2 (B) is recognized as a promising cathode material for aqueous zinc metal batteries (AZMBs) owing to its remarkable specific capacity and its unique, expansive tunnel structure, which facilitates the reversible insertion and extraction of Zn2+. Nonetheless, challenges such as the inherent instability of the VO2 structure, poor ion/electron transport and a limited capacity due to the low redox potential of the V3+/V4+ couple have hindered its wider application. In this study, we present a strategy to replace vanadium ions by doping Al3+ in VO2. This approach activates the multi-electron reaction (V4+/V5+), to increase the specific capacity and improve the structural stability by forming robust V5+O and Al3+O bonds. It also induces a local electric field by altering the local electron arrangement, which significantly accelerates the ion/electron transport process. As a result, Al-doped VO2 exhibits superior specific capacity, improved cycling stability, and accelerated electronic transport kinetics compared to undoped VO2. The beneficial effects of heterogeneous atomic doping observed here may provide valuable insights into the improvement electrode materials in metal-ion battery systems other than those based on Zn.

Background: The risk of locoregional recurrence (LRR) and the long-term prognosis of breast-conserving surgery (BCS) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) are still controversial. This study aimed to evaluate oncological outcomes for patients undergoing BCS after NAC and determine LRR and survival predictors. Methods: This study was a retrospective cohort study of patients with locally advanced breast cancer (LABC) who received NAC and underwent BCS or mastectomy from June 2011 to November 2020. LRR, disease-free survival (DFS), and overall survival (OS) were compared in patients undergoing BCS or mastectomy. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to determine LRR, DFS, and OS predictors. Results: A total of 585 patients were included, of whom 106 (18.1%) underwent BCS and 479 (81.9%) underwent a mastectomy. The LRR rate was 11.3% in the BCS group and 16.3% in the mastectomy group, revealing no significant difference(p = 0.200). In patients who underwent BCS, clinical lymph node status, histological grade and pathological complete response (pCR) were independent factors to predict LRR. There was no significant difference in DFS and OS between the BCS and the mastectomy groups. Multivariable analysis showed that lymph node status, histological grade, molecular subtypes, pCR and Miller&Payne (M&P) classification were independent predictors of DFS. Lymph node status, molecular subtypes and pCR were independent predictors of OS. BCS or mastectomy was not an independent predictor of DFS or OS. Conclusion: Compared with mastectomy, BCS after NAC may not increase the risk of local recurrence or mortality, BCS can be performed in selected patients with small tumor size and good response to NAC.

OBJECTIVE: In this study, we used ultra-wide field swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (UWF SS-OCTA) to assess changes in retinal thickness (RT) and choroidal parameters in individuals who had received a diagnosis of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). METHODS: The study encompassed the evaluation of 59 eyes from 47 patients with a diagnosis of CSC, alongside 33 fellow eyes and 31 eyes from healthy individuals (controls). The parameters assessed included RT, choroidal thickness (CT), choriocapillaris density, vascular density of the large choroidal vessel layer, three-dimensional choroidal vascularity index (3D-CVI), choroidal vessel volume per unit area (mCVV/a), and choroidal stroma volume per unit area (mCSV/a). RESULTS: Metrics including mCVV/a, mCSV/a, 3D-CVI, CT, and RT exhibited significantly elevated values in the eyes affected by CSC compared to those of the control group across nine subfields. Moreover, a substantial number of the subfields in both CSC-affected and fellow eyes exhibited increased values for mCVV/a, mCSV/a, 3D-CVI, CT, and RT when compared with the control group. Additionally, acute and chronic CSC subfields demonstrated significantly elevated values for mCVV/a, mCSV/a, 3D-CVI, CT, and RT in comparison to healthy control eyes. Notably, specific subfields associated with complex and atypical forms of CSC revealed higher metrics compared to those of the control group. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the UWF SS-OCTA proved to be a valuable tool for exploring the anatomical etiology and clinical classification and diagnosis of CSC.

For the effectiveness of a computer-aided diagnosis system, the quality of whole-slide image (WSI) is the foundation, and a useful autofocus method is an important part of ensuring the quality of WSI. The existing autofocus methods need to balance focusing speed and focusing accuracy, and need to be optimized separately for different samples or scenes. In this paper, a robust autofocus method based on fiber bundle illumination and image normalization analysis is proposed. For various application scenes, it meets the requirements of autofocusing through active illumination, such as bright field imaging and fluorescence imaging. For different structures on samples, it ensures the autofocusing accuracy through image analysis. The experimental results imply that the autofocusing method in this paper can effectively track the change of the distance from the sample to the focal plane and significantly improve the WSI quality.

A method by detecting the ellipse fitting degree of the trajectory equation formed by two self-mixing (SM) signals in the multi-longitudinal mode laser SM system with a Wollaston prism is presented to test the free spectral range (FSR) of the laser. By utilizing the orthogonal vector and phase-shift characteristics between adjacent longitudinal modes, the fluctuations in multi-mode SM effects caused by changes in the external cavity length are transformed into alterations in the trajectory composed of two orthogonal SM signals. The FSR is calculated by detecting the difference in external cavity lengths between the two positions, where the trajectory of the two SM signals best fits an ellipse. To achieve an automatic FSR measurement, the ellipse fitting degree is proposed as the criterion for positioning the external cavity mode. Experimental results indicate that the FSR of the laser diode is measured to be 85.23 GHz with a resolution of 0.48 GHz, while the corresponding external cavity resolution is 10 µm, and the resolution of the ellipse fitting degree is less than 1. The compact and straightforward design, coupled with high sensitivity, automated measurements, and immunity to optical feedback, holds significant promise as a robust tool for measuring FSR and assessing laser performance.

α-Linolenic acid (ALA) is an important nutrient component in rapeseed oil, and rapeseed breeders want to either restrain or enhance the function of fatty acid desaturases (FADs) in the ALA biosynthesis pathway. To determine the reason for the upregulation of rapeseed BnFAD genes in two high-ALA accessions, R8Q10 and YH25005, we compared their transcriptome profiles in the seed at 24 days after pollination (DAP) with those of two low-ALA lines, A28 and SW. The expression levels of twenty-eight important genes in the seed samples at 20, 27, and 34 DAP were also investigated using an RT-qPCR. The expression levels of genes involved in flavonoid and proanthocyanidin synthesis, including BnCHS, BnCHI, BnDFR, BnFLS1, BnLDOX, BnBAN, BnTT10, and BnTT12 and genes encoding the transcription factors BnTT1, BnTT2, BnTT8, and BnTT16 were lower in R8Q10 and YH25005 than in A28 and SW. The expression levels of genes encoding master transcription factors in embryo development, such as BnLEC1, BnABI3, BnFUS3, BnL1L, BnAREB3, and BnbZIP67, were elevated significantly in the two high-ALA accessions. Combined with previous results in the Arabidopsis and rapeseed literature, we speculated that the yellow-seededness genes could elevate the activity of BnLEC1, BnABI3, BnFUS3, and BnbZIP67, etc., by reducing the expression levels of several transparent testa homologs, resulting in BnFAD3 and BnFAD7 upregulation and the acceleration of ALA synthesis. Yellow-seededness is a favorable factor to promote ALA synthesis in the two high-ALA accessions with the yellow-seeded trait. These findings provide initial insights into the transcriptomic differences between high-/low-ALA germplasms and a theoretic basis for seed quality breeding.

Idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis (IPH) is a rare and fatal lung disease. Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) is the main community-acquired pneumonia among children aged 5 and above in China. We report the following case of IPH complicated with severe mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia(SMPP). An 8-year-old boy with cough and fever was diagnosed with IPH for 3 years and his chest computed tomography showed bilateral bronchopneumonia, lobular consolidation and subpleural interstitial fibrosis. As far as we know, IPH related to SMPP is rarely reported. In the high incidence period of MPP, clinicians and radiologists should be alert to the co-occurrence of IPH and SMPP.

BACKGROUND: Oral squamous cell carcinoma in minors is considered to be a distinct entity from OSCC in older patients, with an uncertain etiology. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection may trigger the initiation and promote the progression of OSCC, but these roles have not been firmly established.We aimed to explore the correlation between HPV infection and the development of oral squamous cell carcinoma in minors and know the characteristics of OSCC in young patients more thoroughly. METHOD: From January 2013 to December 2022,6 cases of OSCC aged < 15 years were selected from the Department of Oral Pathology, Peking University School of Stomatology, Beijing, China. All cases underwent testing for high-risk HPV mRNA infection using the RNA scope technique, and immunohistochemical staining was performed to investigate the expression of p16, pan-cytokeratin (CK), CK5/6, CK7, CK8/18, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), p53, and Ki-67. Furthermore, we reviewed the literature on OSCC in patients aged < 21 years. CONCLUSIONS: Minors OSCC is associated with HPV infection, and that p16 can serve as an immunohistochemical marker of HPV positivity.

Purpose: We developed a nomogram based on the liver function, nutrition, inflammation, and immunity (LFNII) score to predict recurrence-free survival (RFS) post-resection in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) exhibiting alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) negativity (AFP ≤20 ng/mL). Patients and Methods: Clinical data of 661 patients diagnosed with alpha-fetoprotein-negative hepatocellular carcinoma (AFP-NHCC) who underwent surgical resection at two medical centers between 2012 and 2021 were collected. A total of 462 and 199 patients served as the training and validation sets, respectively. Pre-operative blood markers were collected and analyzed for LFNII. The LFNII score was formulated using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator Cox regression model. A nomogram model was developed using the training set to incorporate other relevant clinicopathological indicators and predict postoperative recurrence. Model discrimination was assessed using the receiver operating characteristic curve, calibration was evaluated using a calibration curve, and clinical applicability was assessed using clinical decision curve analysis. A comparison with liver cancer staging was performed using the nomogram model. Finally, a cohort study was conducted to validate our findings. Results: We derived the LFNII scores from nine indicators. Elevated LFNII scores correlated with unfavorable clinicopathological features. The LFNII score area under the curve revealed superior predictive efficacy at 1-, 2-, and 5-year RFS intervals, with values of 0.675, 0.658, and 0.633, respectively. Multivariate Cox analysis revealed that a high LFNII score independently increased RFS risk in patients with AFP-NHCC. The C-index of the LFNII-nomogram model was 0.686 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.651-0.721). The nomogram model's clinical application value surpassed that of standard HCC staging systems. Conclusion: The LFNII score-derived nomogram effectively predicted the RFS of patients with AFP-NHCC after curative resection.

PURPOSE: Pelvic X-ray (PXR) is widely utilized in clinical decision-making associated with the pelvis, the lower part of the trunk that supports and balances the trunk. In particular, PXR-based landmark detection facilitates downstream analysis and computer-assisted diagnosis and treatment of pelvic diseases. Although PXR has the advantages of low radiation and reduced cost compared to computed tomography (CT), it characterizes the 2D pelvis-tissue superposition of 3D structures, which may affect the accuracy of landmark detection in some cases. However, the superposition nature of PXR is implicitly handled by existing deep learning-based landmark detection methods, which mainly design the deep network structures for better detection performances. Explicit handling of the superposition nature of PXR is rarely done. METHODS: In this paper, we explicitly focus on the superposition of X-ray images. Specifically, we propose a pelvis extraction (PELE) module that consists of a decomposition network, a domain adaptation network, and an enhancement module, which utilizes 3D prior anatomical knowledge in CT to guide and well isolate the pelvis from PXR, thereby eliminating the influence of soft tissue for landmark detection. The extracted pelvis image, after enhancement, is then used for landmark detection. RESULTS: We conduct an extensive evaluation based on two public and one private dataset, totaling 850 PXRs. The experimental results show that the proposed PELE module significantly improves the accuracy of PXRs landmark detection and achieves state-of-the-art performances in several benchmark metrics. CONCLUSION: The design of PELE module can improve the accuracy of different pelvic landmark detection baselines, which we believe is obviously conducive to the positioning and inspection of clinical landmarks and critical structures, thus better serving downstream tasks. BACKGROUND: Soft tissue sarcoma, a malignant tumor arising from mesenchymal tissues with poor prognosis. 5'-Nucleotidase Domain Containing 2 (NT5DC2) is a novel oncogene, and the precise involvement of NT5DC2 in soft tissue sarcoma were still undefined. Hence, our study aims to investigate NT5DC2 functions in soft tissue sarcoma progression. METHODS: The tumor immune single-cell hub 2 (TISCH2) website, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) pan-cancer or sarcoma and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO, GSE21122) databases were applied to visualize the NT5DC2 status in the sarcoma databases. The NT5DC2 protein expression in sarcoma tissues in our hospital was detected by using immunohistochemistry (IHC) and analyzed the associations between NT5DC2 expression and clinicopathological parameters. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), colony formation, 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) assay, wound healing, transwell, flow cytometry and xenograft model were used to elucidate the effects of NT5DC2 downregulated by lentivirus in sarcoma cell. RESULTS: The TISCH2 website detection found that NT5DC2 expression is enriched in malignant cells in sarcoma single-cell database. Furthermore, the TCGA-sarcoma database indicated that NT5DC2 expression correlates with metastasis, positive margin status, prognosis, and diagnostic value. Additionally, IHC staining showed that 40 % of soft tissue sarcoma patients present high expression of NT5DC2, and NT5DC2 upregulation is closely associated with poor prognosis. Functional verification analysis further revealed that downregulating NT5DC2 expression can suppress sarcoma progression through the ECM-receptor interaction pathway. CONCLUSION: Low expression of NT5DC2 predicts a favorable prognosis in soft tissue sarcoma, and downregulated NT5DC2 expression can suppress sarcoma cell progression through the ECM-receptor interaction pathway.

Arsenic (As)-contaminated soil poses great health risk to human mostly through inadvertent oral exposure. We investigated CaAl-layered double hydroxide (CaAl-LDH), a promising immobilising agent, for the remediation of As-contaminated Chinese soils. The effects on specific soil properties and As fractionation were analyzed, and changes in the health risk of soil As were accurately assessed by means of advanced in vivo mice model and in vitro PBET-SHIME model. Results showed that the application of CaAl-LDH significantly increased soil pH and concentration of Fe and Al oxides, and effectively converted active As fractions into the most stable residual fraction, guaranteeing long-term remediation stability. Based on in vivo test, As relative bioavailability was significantly reduced by 37.75%. Based on in vitro test, As bioaccessibility in small intestinal and colon phases was significantly reduced by 25.65% and 28.57%, respectively. Furthermore, As metabolism (reduction and methylation) by the gut microbiota inhabiting colon was clearly observed. After immobilisation with CaAl-LDH, the concentration of bioaccessible As(Ⅴ) in the colon fluid was significantly reduced by 61.91%, and organic As (least toxic MMA(V) and DMA(V)) became the main species, which further reduced the health risk of soil As. In summary, CaAl-LDH proved to be a feasible option for immobilisation remediation of As-contaminated soils, and considerable progress was made in relevant health risk assessment.

Pathological cardiac hypertrophy (CH) is driven by maladaptive changes in myocardial cells in response to pressure overload or other stimuli. CH has been identified as a significant risk factor for the development of various cardiovascular diseases, ultimately resulting in heart failure. Melanoma differentiation-associated protein 5 (MDA5), encoded by interferon-induced with helicase C domain 1 (IFIH1), is a cytoplasmic sensor that primarily functions as a detector of double-stranded ribonucleic acid (dsRNA) viruses in innate immune responses; however, its role in CH pathogenesis remains unclear. Thus, the aim of this study was to examine the relationship between MDA5 and CH using cellular and animal models generated by stimulating neonatal rat cardiomyocytes with phenylephrine and by performing transverse aortic constriction on mice, respectively. MDA5 expression was upregulated in all models. MDA5 deficiency exacerbated myocardial pachynsis, fibrosis, and inflammation in vivo, whereas its overexpression hindered CH development in vitro. In terms of the underlying molecular mechanism, MDA5 inhibited CH development by promoting apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 (ASK1) phosphorylation, thereby suppressing c-Jun N-terminal kinase/p38 signaling pathway activation. Rescue experiments using an ASK1 activation inhibitor confirmed that ASK1 phosphorylation was essential for MDA5-mediated cell death. Thus, MDA5 protects against CH and is a potential therapeutic target.
